REGIONAL & LOCAL MEDIA IN KENT

A Research Project for Kent

Please think about the following questions:

  1. Is it important to have local newspapers?
  2. Does it matter how much local content regional television services provide?
  3. Does the Internet enhance and/or fragment communication in local communities?
  4. Does it matter who provides our local and regional news and how it is provided?
  5. What roles do local and regional media play in our communities’ lives?
  6. What were the first newspapers in Kent and how they developed? How have media in Kent changed over the centuries?
  7. What are the relationships between local media and local democracy?

Regional and local media in Kent, as everywhere else, are going through a transformation and their future is in disarray because of technological changes, market transformation and economic crisis. In such turbulent time we think it is important to discuss questions like the above and this website seeks to contribute to their debate.

In general, the website aims to provide information on regional and local media in Kent as well as on research projects we have done/are doing on related topics.
